The MDUK Premiership was still undecided going in to the final day’s matches, Alba required a positive result in at least one of their games to secure their second Scottish League title. They achieved this in the opening game of the day by beating the champions for the last three years Tayside Dynamo’s. Goals by Ben Hetherington , Kieran Burns and captain Connor McCole were enough to clinch the title, Nicky Duncan replied for Tayside in the second half but it wasn’t enough. Alba went on to defeat South Ayrshire Tigers, who showed their class by giving Alba a guard of honours, by the same 3-1 score line to end the season as clear winners and take their first title since 2014.
This left a closely contested fight for the runners up spot, Glasgow Gladiators, who started the day in 4th just 2 points behind second took on Tigers, both defences came out on top in a 0-0 draw, leaving the final game of the day as a decider. Glasgow Gladiators led Tayside for much of the game and if although results meant 2nd place was out of reach they would have moved ahead of Tayside, however Tayside showed their character with a late equaliser to earn a draw and finish the season in 3rd place.
The Championship started with Lothian Wolves leading Glasgow Gladiators Bravehearts by 3 points, Bravehearts had to win their first game against Clyde Caledonia and may have been worried with a 0-0 half time score line before Peter McGuire came on and scored a quick hat trick. This meant we had a decider between the top two. It was a close match that was decided by a classy goal from Wolves Chris Jacquin ensuring Lothian were to collect their first piece of silverware. Lothian ended the season on a high with a 6 0 win over Caledonia.
All that remained for the season was to present the trophies, representing our sponsors MDUK, Robert Warner presented medals to winners and runners-up of both leagues…. and the celebrations began, the champagne was flowing, another season came to a close.
