As you may be aware the EPFA Nations Cup will be held in Finland in May 2019 and the SPFA were invited to enter our National Team in the competition. Following discussions it has been decided that we will not be entering the competition.
I can assure you this decision was not taken lightly, our International committee consisting of the International coaches, myself as SPFA Chair, SPFA Secretary and Treasurer thoroughly considered the pros and cons of attending, we also consulted with other associations and the EPFA before making our decision. By attending the event in Finland it could potentially have seriously impacted on the funds available to us that are required to develop the game both domestically and internationally and we felt this risk was too high.
However, I can assure you this is not a backward step, we will now be putting a three year plan in place to enable this development and with the support of the SFA Para Football Association we are looking at having a programme that will develop our national team which will be challenging, exciting and competitive. This will take some time as we prepare and work with potential opponents and we will update you as soon as we are in a position to do so.
Our aim is to make Scotland competitive in the world of Powerchair Football and we firmly believe the plans we have discussed will enable us to do this.
Thank you
Willie Pettigrew
SPFA Chairperson
