EPFA Nations Cup 2019

epfaAs you may be aware the EPFA Nations Cup will be held in Finland in May 2019 and the SPFA were invited to enter our National Team in the competition. Following discussions it has been decided that we will not be entering the competition.

I can assure you this decision was not taken lightly, our International committee consisting of the International coaches, myself as SPFA Chair, SPFA Secretary and Treasurer thoroughly considered the pros and cons of attending, we also consulted with other associations and the EPFA before making our decision. By attending the event in Finland it could potentially have seriously impacted on the funds available to us that are required to develop the game both domestically and internationally and we felt this risk was too high.

However, I can assure you this is not a backward step, we will now be putting a three year plan in place to enable this development and with the support of the SFA Para Football Association we are looking at having a programme that will develop our national team which will be challenging, exciting and competitive. This will take some time as we prepare and work with potential opponents and we will update you as soon as we are in a position to do so.

Our aim is to make Scotland competitive in the world of Powerchair Football and we firmly believe the plans we have discussed will enable us to do this.

Thank you

Willie Pettigrew

Matchday 4 Preview

This Sunday will see the penultimate set of games in both the MDUK premiership and Championship.

Clyde Alba currently top the premiership as they seek to wrestle the title from Tayside Dynamo’s, winners for the last three years. A three point gap separates Alba from Tayside and South Ayrshire Tigers. Alba will kick off the Premiership day with a game against Glasgow Gladiators followed by Tigers coming up against Tayside, a game that will surely decide who will be Alba’s biggest challengers.

Alba Captain – Connor McCole

Alba will then square up to Tayside and should results go their way this could see Alba clinch the title with two games to spare. Tayside, however will fight tooth and nail as they attempt to retain their title. The day finishes with Tigers coming up against Gladiators. Going by past matchdays all the games will be tightly contested as there is little between the four teams

Lothian Wolves – bidding for their first piece of silverware

The MDUK Championship looks like a two way battle between Lothian Wolves and Glasgow Gladiators Bravehearts and those two teams will come up against each other in the final Championship game of the day. Prior to this both clubs will face Clyde Caledonia who, although currently trailing will be looking for a couple of victories to get them back in the frame. It is looking like an exciting climax for all teams and it looks like it is going to go down to the final day to decide the first MDUK Championship winners.
