Its with great pleasure we can announce our national team picked up the winners trophy in Madrid this week.
Our elite athletes traveled to Madrid, Spain to compete against Spain and Mexico in the first invitational tournament to be held in Spain.
The squad picked up five wins and one draw over the two days of intense competition, playing some thrilling football along the way.
As the tournaments top goal scorers, and tightest defense the team put on a dominant display of football. Also finishing with the tournament top goal scorer (Connor Mccole) and tournament most valuable player (Eythan Galloway) the team came home with a host of achievements.
This was a debut first team tournament for Tyler McLelland who settled into the team very well, Logan Mitchelson made up the fourth player and showed his class throughout.
All four players grabbing goals over the weekend to round of a perfect competition.
On the coaching front, head coach Ryan Alexander took charge of his first tournament and was supported by Gareth Mitchelson and Steven Miller as assistant coaches. Team manager, Craig Peattie made up the coaching team.
We owe great gratitude to everyone who has allowed us to achieve this accomplishment. International partners Deans Civil Engineering who’s sponsorship allowed us to attend the event and Inverclyde National Training Center who have enhanced our training level by providing training camps.
Huge thanks to Andrew Raeburn who again provided safe transport for our playing chairs and equipment, along with Steven Miller. The pair took on the four days of driving there and back for the good of the team.
Finally our thanks and congratulations to Spain for inviting us to this historical event and hosting such a wonderful event. It was great to play against Spain again and challenge ourselves.
We also made new friends from Mexico, both associations have worked together in the past but never met in person or on the pitch. This was a great privilege too.
We look forward to future events together.
