The Scottish National Powerchair sides traveled to Northern Ireland recently to take part in the Home Nations and Home Nations Invitational competitions respectively.
The Home Nations Squad made up of Connor Mccole, Chris Jacquin, Kein Speed, Nicky Duncan, Lewis McConnell and Robbie Martin traveled to Belfast in April to take on their Home Nations counterparts. The squad comprising of some international debutantes took away a lot of learning and valuable experience at international level.
The Home Nations Invitational Squad made up of Logan Mitchelson, Colin Shields, Eythan Galloway, James Doull, Thomas Pettigrew and Kieran Burns also traveled to Belfast, this time in May. The competition seen the side pick up their first International win at Senior level with their debut game against hosts Northern Ireland, despite good performances against Republic of Ireland and European Champions England the results did not go Scotland’s way. All three of Scotland’s opponents using the competition as a warm up for the world cup meant Scotland could test themselves against Europe’s elite countries while we remain in our infancy as an international side.
We would like to thank Wheelchair Sports UK for their continued support of the National team, without them these opportunities may not be out there. Also thanks go to the Scottish FA, Irish FA, EPFA and FIPFA.
